If you’re a regular reader of FitnessOnToast, you’ll know that I hold breakfast in super high esteem! It’s the key opportunity to engage your metabolism and fuel your body with a serious meal that’ll keep you going for the day ahead. If you do it right, you’ll underpin the rest of your day, increasing the likelihood of staying on track and diminishing the temptation to snack! Given this, I’m always looking to devise interesting breakfast ideas, and when the invite arrived in my inbox to attend the launch party of Love Beets (a beetroot company with British heritage), I had a bit of a breakfast brainwave… This post is broken down into three parts; 1) The benefits of beetroot, 2) the Love Beets Voga session at the London Edition hotel last week, and 3) my healthy ‘Beetroot Breakfast Milkshake’ recipe which is loaded with fresh ingredients and healthy fats to nourish your body nice and early in the day. THE BENEFITS OF MEDITATION !!!
This post focuses on my 5 key benefits of meditation. I don’t practise it with the mechanical regularity I’d like, but when the opportunity arises (like on this private little outcrop high atop the Caesar Augustus in Capri), it’s a joyous delight. Some may read this and instantly think ‘oh, that meditation spiritual malarkey, it’s not for me…‘ but you’d be depriving yourself of some exceptional medically proven benefits! Read on for MORE, and to discover my latest fabulous fitness fashion ensemble from the wonderfully-affordable Onzie, straight out of care-free California!
YOGA WITH CHARLI !!!
Living and working everyday in the health & fitness world, my ‘uniform’ so to speak, is activewear; I’m in it all day long, every single day, so I’m always on the lookout for something different, comfortable, exciting, inspiring… This post, shot amongst the breathtaking and tranquil gardens of the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat (still one of my favourite places in the world) highlights an outfit from my latest fitness fashion find, Charli London. YOU FEELING THE STRETCH ???
This is a short post to revisit the importance of stretching. Why? People are training harder than usual this time of year to whip their bodies into ‘beach mode’ for the upcoming holiday season, so here’s a little reminder of why not to overlook your stretches and why it’s so important! Just by stretching for a few minutes after each session, you’ll see and feel actual, real-life benefits. Check out my favourite 5 (of many) reasons why it’s the way forward, and a few added stretch ‘idea’ photographs to get you started, all shot at the gorgeous Kasbah Tamadot, Morocco, wearing Lululemon and Autumn Cashmere. YOGA FOR DUMMIES !!!
This post documents my own little ‘Moon Salutation’ sequence beside the Kasbah Tamadot’s pool on my trip to Morocco; a cooling and quieting session of nocturnal Yoga. I’ve always loved Yoga as a form of exercise for mind & body, but having not practiced for far too long, I felt like a true novice once again. On this silent, misty mountain night, I remembered why I love it so much. To my mind, Yoga is an ethos unto itself, and a way of life – the goal is to achieve total health rather than just an aesthetic result. Below is a collection of my 10 fave, basic yoga poses alongside some photos and notes to explain each movement briefly. In the past, I’ve found it a fabulous beginner’s routine to practise on a daily basis. For my session, I’m wearing some favourites from the Sweaty Betty’s spring/summer ‘yoga retreat’. INTERVIEWING THE DESIGNERS AT SWEATY BETTY !!!
As part of my prize for winning the Sweaty Betty blogger styling event for their SS14 collection (you might remember it from my previous post HERE), I had the opportunity to interview their design team (Lisa, Laura and Julia) over at SB HQ in Fulham. The picture above is me in full-on ‘interview mode’. Organised over 3 floors, with a yoga studio, a shop, full corporate infrastructure and a strict ban on using the lift, the headquarters reminded me of a mini-Asos office; buzzing, creative, young and very cool! There are fabric libraries, mood walls, rows of iMacs, hair straightener zones, and a growing collection of award plaques…
Below you’ll find the transcript from my interview. There are some fun pictures to go along with it, which give you a flavour of how their ground floor studio-space looks, but this post is really meant for the keen fitness fashion enthusiast. It provides a rare insight into how the people that create our ‘sports looks’ think about the design process. A huge logistical and creative effort gets underway every single season, and as western consumers, we tend to take that ‘in-store-availability’ and ‘newness’ totally for granted; we’re totally oblivious to what’s going on behind the scenes, to get the product onto our shelves. The Sweaty Betty team are developing a world-class approach to the process, and I found it a fascinating experience to get a glimpse of the construction. I hope you enjoy reading it (or maybe just browsing a few of the shots) 🙂 Faya x
SUN-SALUTE YOGA ATOP ‘THE SHARD’ !!!
This week, I was invited by Gap to a very special yoga class. It took place 1016 feet (310m) above London’s pavements, on the 69th floor of Europe’s tallest building The Shard at the crack of dawn, to watch the sunrise over a stunning 360-degree view of London. Certainly not your average sweaty bikram backdrop! Given the weather was utterly flawless with just a wisp of fluffy haze on the distant horizon, the spectacular natural theatrics didn’t disappoint; This was quite simply the most epic and magically uplifting yoga session I’ve ever done! Get the review & pictures below…
FEELING SPORTY, LOOKING SLOUCHY !!!
So the 25th has come and gone, but the Christmas break isn’t quite over yet! I’m still enjoying the festive holidays, lounging around with friends and family, so I like to wear something comfortable for the occasion. The way I feel right now has inspired (more…)
GETTING SWEATY WITH BETTY – SS14 BLOGGER PREVIEW
This week I was invited to attend the SS14 blogger/press preview day of one of my favourite sports apparel brands, Sweaty Betty. Here’s a short post with some pictures from the event; I’m very excited to see the full collection in store! I loved some of the inspiration, especially the marine / nautical feel running through most of the collection, which really chimed with me as it had quite a Swedish feel to it! The outfit above was a combination of my favourite pieces from SS14; the materials are just impossibly soft! Thanks Sweaty Betty 🙂 Faya x
WHO YOU CALLING SWEATY, BETTY ?!?
Whilst we’re on the topic of fitness fashion, I am a big fan of the British acitve-wear brand, Sweaty Betty, and often find myself scooping-up entire training outfits there when I was just planning on an innocent browse. I’ve always been particularly taken by their ‘yoga’ range, because the clothes are so incredibly relaxed, the fit is flattering and the materials are usually super comfy – great for either lounging around or being active. Also, their ‘workout wear’ (which I’m wearing in these photos, shot for a Facebook banner) is very functional too, with summery, fun bright colours & prints that aren’t too garish to actually wear! Its a feminine-looking range of clothes, with technical materials that I think justifies their slightly premium price-point.
I know new outfits can encourage me to go to the gym if I’m lacking motivation to train; it’s not a catwalk but you are allowed to look and feel good at the gym, plus dedicated training gear can often be designed to enhance your performance (e.g. oxygenating / breathable / moisture-wicking fabrics etc.) – though that’s also just a good excuse to go shopping 🙂
