A DELICIOUS BROWNIE RECIPE, ONLY HEALTHIER!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Recipe Chocolate Brownie Sweet Potato Healthier Recipe Dessert Tea Snack Lighter Low GI Carb Cheat Treat

Almost everyone loves Sweet Potato; it naturally sits one level higher than potato on the deliciousness continuum, precisely because of the inclusion of the word ‘sweet’. These tuberous wonders profess lower-GI properties, rendering them ‘complex carbs’, whos sugars break down over a longer period of time. These properties, in turn, are less likely to leave you a hyperactive sugar-high child for an hour, followed by transformation into crushed zombie at your sugar trough for the ensuing 4 hours. With that in mind, I thought I’d throw out the recipe for something quite delectable; these gluten free sweet potato chocolate brownies are provocatively moist, soft and gooey thanks to the inclusion of this masterful, hero ingredient, which keeps them molten and exquisite. You’ll find this recipe along with a bunch of other desserts, breakfasts, lunches dinners and snacks in my book Fit in 3, which contains a mammoth 60 recipes in total, all Scandi-inspired. DELICIOUS SUMMER CITRUS SALAD!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Healthy Recipe Girl Diet Lighter Choices Summer Salad Fennel Citrus_-2

I’ve lived in Blighty for over a decade now (and am half-English by birth), but I don’t remember this country having experienced such a proper stereotypical ‘summer’ before, with countless days of uninterrupted pleasant weather, and not a hosepipe ban in sight! To mark the occasion, here’s a deliciously light, refreshing and quintessentially ‘summery’ salad, somewhat infused with Scandinavian know-how. The texture and flavour really reminds me of Swedish summers! The crunchy, quenching fennel works beautifully when tossed into a salad and whilst this particular ‘edit’ is vegan-friendly, it works sublimely when dusted with flakes of roasted salmon too! Quick, easy and requiring almost no kitchen flare whatsoever, this is your best chance of upgrading your Monday-night Salad Game…

TOP SIX HEALTHY LONDON FOOD JOINTS!

Main Healthy Cafes London-5

Happy New Year, if I may still be permitted to say; but for those who chose to extend the festive break, today is the first working day of 2018, and thus, the most tragic day of the year. January statistically correlates with a high volume of re-joiners to the gym again, resolving to be more active and live healthier. Preach alert; the choice I made years ago was to be relatively healthy as an all-year-round lifestyle approach, (not a seasonal one), and it’s broadly been an enjoyable one at that! But for those taking up gym membership today and mobilizing those resolutions (quite literally), remember that so much ground is “made in the kitchen”. So, to help you not only eat healthily but also eat delicious and adventurous fare in 2018, here’s my top curated list of old and new healthy restaurant discoveries to check out around London. ❄️ WINTER LENTIL SALAD ❄️

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Nutrition Lentil Vegetarian Pescatarian Tasty Health Diet Salad Winter Hearty Veggie Option Dinner Lunch

Being a strict pescetarian, I try to find different ways of working in varied, exciting protein-rich plant foods to my dishes, wherever possible. This salad ticks the protein box thanks to the lentils and that delectable ‘grilled halloumi’ topper. Combined with thyme and honey-roasted veggies, it tastes just a little reminiscent of something ‘Christmassy’, and absolutely delivers a hearty, filling experience that few salads can match.  I dare you to take up the challenge of whipping this up for dinner during the coming week; get the full recipe by clicking MORE! MY TOP 8 HEALTHY PLACES TO EAT IN STOCKHOLM!

Stockholm Fitness On Toast Faya

OK I’m Swedish! There, I’ve said it. Well, now you know my secret, I might as well let you in on some more; our capital city Stockholm boasts some totally outrageous places to eat, ranging from those with the Michelin ‘nod’, to cozy cafés and hipster juice bars. Swedes fiercely pride themselves on a little tradition called ‘fika’ which conventionally involves comfy sofas, a chinwag, and indulgent cakes & coffee. But there’s a tension in the air; ours is a nation of militant cake snobs, but we have also jumped firmly on the ‘health bandwagon’; a combo that doesn’t naturally coexist! Luckily dear reader, FitnessOnToast.com is here to help curate your next break in this most exceptional of cities! MEDITATION – THE BOOST ON-THE-GO!

Fitness On Toast - Faya - Tube Meditation

Life is stressful but I’ve long believed it’s possible to steal back a little bit of balanced calm, and often at some of the most unexpected times throughout the day. There are several ways to give oneself a physical and mental healthy nudge to keep going… one of my favorites is meditation. Everyone’s daily pressures differ, and mine come in the form of juggling personal training clients, meetings pertaining to this blog, and a few other projects I have on the go. For me, seeking a moment of tranquility to escape the relentless chaos is best served through a moment of meditation on the go; I even practice on the tube between stations, because there’s no bad place for it. Read the full post to see some of my top reasons for taking some time to include this discipline in your day too.

TOFU SALAD WITH CASHEW DRESSING !

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Recipe Tasty Dish Dinner Lunch Salad Idea Cashew Sauce Vegetarian Diet Tofu Instructions

This little colorful Tofu Salad with Cashew Dressing is something I designed to make the most of the fridge leftovers – salad innovation is a totally freestyle discipline in that you can literally chuck in whatever you fancy; I’ve chosen a mixture of colorful everyday affordable vegetables with a mixture of crunchy textures, supplemented with the silky softness of the tofu parcels and augmented by the deep and rich flavours of turmeric and cumin as well as the thick breadth of the cashew dressing. The dish is undisputedly vegetarian, but the cashew and tofu add a decent source of plant protein, and since it’s properly summery in London right now, this is a real ‘sit outside in the evening sun‘ dinner dish which is both filling yet light enough to enable an unconstrained night’s sleep! TURMERIC & SAFFRON WILD SEA BASS!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Cod Turmeric Spice Saffron Flavour Diet Low Calorie High Protein Delicious Dinner Lunch idea
Turmeric is all the rage these days, having successfully captured the zeitgeist of hipster nutrition. It appears in all sorts of places from lattes to protein shakes. I propose something altogether different today; in order to help you channel your inner trend-follower whilst enjoying a superbly tasty and healthy dish, here’s a quick and easy fish recipe using turmeric and saffron to give it some unexpected flavours, AND alluring colours. The turmeric and saffron enrobe the fish in a wonderfully rich yellow hue whilst the sweet flavours work beautifully with the savoury fish. Colourful plant foods are superb for our health because of their phytochemical properties (plant pigments) and turmeric is an extremely concentrated example of exactly that. It offers a disproportionate suite of health benefits due to the presence of curcumin, the yellow pigment. Mainly that curcumin’s benefits range from potent anti-inflammatory properties to areas of heart health and cognitive function. This dish is quick and easy to make and really doesn’t require much by way of kitchen skills. Click MORE to get the ‘how to’…
