A DELICIOUS BROWNIE RECIPE, ONLY HEALTHIER!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Recipe Chocolate Brownie Sweet Potato Healthier Recipe Dessert Tea Snack Lighter Low GI Carb Cheat Treat

Almost everyone loves Sweet Potato; it naturally sits one level higher than potato on the deliciousness continuum, precisely because of the inclusion of the word ‘sweet’. These tuberous wonders profess lower-GI properties, rendering them ‘complex carbs’, whos sugars break down over a longer period of time. These properties, in turn, are less likely to leave you a hyperactive sugar-high child for an hour, followed by transformation into crushed zombie at your sugar trough for the ensuing 4 hours. With that in mind, I thought I’d throw out the recipe for something quite delectable; these gluten free sweet potato chocolate brownies are provocatively moist, soft and gooey thanks to the inclusion of this masterful, hero ingredient, which keeps them molten and exquisite. You’ll find this recipe along with a bunch of other desserts, breakfasts, lunches dinners and snacks in my book Fit in 3, which contains a mammoth 60 recipes in total, all Scandi-inspired. I’ve not posted any ‘Top London Restaurant’ tips for a while so instead, I thought I’d cover off 4 of my favourite recent restaurant discoveries in one go! They are all quite disparate, but their commonality comes from offering vegan menus or strong vegan options, rendering it far easier to eat with a group of friends who have the varied dietary requirements of the modern hipster-millennial hybrid. Some of them are more cafe style – perfect for meetings and casual catch ups –  whilst the others lend themselves perfectly to giving your heels a twirl! HEALTHY CAULIFLOWER PIZZA!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Recipe Amazon Pizza Oven Linwoods Crockery Picnic Summer Campaign Healthy Pizza Food Ideal Dinner Summery-5

Can pizza ever be healthy?‘, you may be wondering, as I also did once upon a time. But being a normal human being, I absolutely adore the occasional pleasure of a salty, thin, crispy pizza with fresh basil and authentic Italian ingredients topping it off! However it’s a rare treat as I know a large pizza can easily amount to 1000+ calories, and relatively empty ones at that. SOLUTION TIME! Amazon challenged me to whip up something summery and healthy but with an indulgent touch, as part of their #NowItsSummer campaign, and I picked up that gauntlet with gusto; Pizza it was to be! In this post, I’ve experimented with a ‘healthier’ dough-base equivalent in the form of cauliflower and sourced my own high-quality toppings to complement it. The production process was a total blast, and the result is way tastier and easier-to-make than it sounds – plus it forms a delicious crust foundation to house the topping of your choice. For me, that’s anchovies (deliciousness plus the added benefit of some omega fatty acids and protein), some low-fat-high-protein cheese, some flax, tomatoes and veggies, some fresh basil and rocket, and we’re in business! STAYING HEALTHY AT THE OFFICE!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Healthy Office Stay Diet Fit Idea Healthy Snack Health Light Low Calorie Desk Temptation Sweet Treat Idea-3

Staying healthy in the office environment is a monumental challenge. It’s not unusual for the office worker to remain at his/her desk for a solid 13 hour spell, arising only for a hit of drowsiness-neutralising caffeine and/or to plunder the vending machine. Our poor bodies weren’t designed to be sat slouched and motionless for half a day, and funnily enough, they tend to complain to us in funny ways! Back pain is the most frequent cause of people taking long term absence from the office, with a  supposed 15 million work days lost to it in the UK, giving rise to some serious unpleasantness for the poor sufferer! Some is stress related, but a degree is down to joint sprain, muscle spasm, poor posture, immobility and wear-and-tear. This post is about how to stay mobile at the office and care for your body properly, supplemented with a little ‘Snack Smarter’ section, to get you through your day satisfied and healthy! Click MORE to see it all…

HEALTHY CANAPE IDEAS!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Nutrition Recipe Idea Ingredients Nairns Wholegrain Oat Cake Entertaining Canapes Health Beauty N-2

When I started Fitness On Toast, I chose the name as a reaction to the sheer number of improvised meals served ‘on toast’ in the UK; my Personal Training clients would fill their food diaries with the likes of beans on toast, cheese on toast, eggs on toast, jam on toast… I wanted to highlight some Fitness on toast instead! However I believe it’s possible to create healthy equivalents to fuel you pre & post workout, yet still preserve the essence of that great national gastronomic heritage! I’ve been working with the UK’s number one oatcake brand, Nairns to achieve precisely that, and this post is all about my healthy canapés, which are delicious, super easy to make, and are served on their exquisite  Super Seeded Organic Oatcakes. TRAINING TRICEPS!

Fitness On Toast Faya Blog Girl Healthy Health Workout Arm Exercise Forever 21 Virgin Active Gym Training Fashion-21

This post is about how to banish the infamous ‘bingo wings’, which secretly work to veil the triceps like a hood; those so-called ‘triceps’ are a large, three-headed group comprising a long, medial & lateral head, all positioned towards the back of the upper-arm. Whether in or out of the gym, we use them for every movement requiring a push, and indeed some that require pulls too. Weaker triceps could well limit the effectiveness of training shoulders, chest and back, and might also stop you from heroically saving the day if extreme arm strength is required in some sort of an emergency! When worked-out properly, you can actually sculpt these triceps so that they look just-so for an upcoming spring getaway occasion! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Christmas! It may have been an indulgent one (rightly so!) but there comes a time to re-focus, transition off the mince pies, and to re-establish health-mode. I’m guessing there are a few surplus Brussel sprouts knocking about at present (either in your fridge or at the supermarket); this ‘Sprout, Apple & Barley Salad‘ is an explosion of colour and taste which happens to take advantage of these little Christmassy miracle orbs! Brussel Sprouts are super healthy (ultra-low GI, almost calorie-free, low in saturated fat, cholesterol-lowering properties, a very good source of dietary fibre & most vitamins like A, C, K, B6). They’ve also been the subject of dozens of prominent research studies into their anti-carcinogenic properties. This is a delicious and easy-to-make salad which can be enjoyed anytime of the year, either hot or cold, but is a particularly good transition now the xmas glut is over! SWEET POTATO GNOCCHI !

Humanity is pre-programmed to love the carby sensation of pasta – especially at this time of year, when the cold weather leads us crave it. Physiologically, it’s thought that the body’s asking for more Tryptophan, an amino acid which helps produce serotonin, which in turn regulates our mood, helps with digestion and sleep cycles. I’m often asked if I know any “healthy hearty meals”, and whilst  the likes of spaghetti, creamy soups and breads don’t typically come to mind, this post is an attempt to prove that hearty can be healthy! Click MORE for the recipe & how-to.  (more…)
