You might recently have spied a trail of breadcrumb-pictures on my Instagram where I’m riding London’s eponymous Santander Cycles, meandering my way around what I think are some of our wonderful capital city’s most picturesque parts; the gorgeous Little Venice area of Regent’s Canal, the Outer Circle in Regent’s Park, Primrose Hill… The Cycles are a ubiquitous and awesome fitness resource which anyone can use to see those parts of the city they’ve not visited before: I.e. go discover London for less than the cost of a green juice and get fit at the same time, it’s the perfect combo!!! For example – and it’s a bit of an unusual example – I recently attended a mind-blowing special spin class ABOVE the iconic landmark Tower Bridge, hosted by (and ON) Santander Cycles. The 80m glass walkway housed myself and 9 other lucky invitees as we Santander-cycled our way through an hour-long sweaty BOOM Cycle class whilst watching a deliciously romantic sunset over the Thames and St Pauls. For years I drifted aimlessly in the latter camp, but writing this blog forced me to upgrade my ‘planning skills’ alot, and I’ve learned a few things along the way, which I’m sharing in this post! The eagle-eyed amongst you might have spied that I recently took over the @GarnierUK Instagram a couple of weeks ago as part of the fun of joining their team of super inspirational women! Apart from hosting some epic competitions, I was really keen for the takeover to showcase a few different practical tips to help you be the healthiest version of you and reset for spring! BENEFITS OF A STRONG SKELETON!
CHICKPEA BURGERS !
I’ve created a lot of recipes in my time as a blogger, but few have made me smile as much as this! Since I’m a pescatarian, I made these Chickpea burgers as a healthy and utterly delicious veggie option for certain summer nights when the carnivores want to go all caveman and rustle up a bbq. These alternatives are full of natural plant-based protein and super-full on flavour such that they can convince even the most fixated meat addicts around! GARNIER AMBASSADOR!
After months of mini-clues and Insta-hints, I’m absolutely over the moon to announce I’ve joined the Garnier team as an ambassador today, alongside the shiny new look for FitnessOnToast.com. As part of their upcoming ‘Reset Yourself for Spring‘ campaign, I’m massively looking forward to taking over their Instagram account for the whole week starting next Monday, accompanied by a bunch of awesome giveaways of my own custom-created bundles of Garnier goodies! Through my everyday pursuit of fitness, health and wellbeing, the body is subjected to an unusual amount of training, sweating and showering; a beauty brand I know and trust to look after me is an absolutely core part of my overall approach to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. TOP TRX TRICKS !
I’ve been intending to post this for a while now, but better late than never! The TRX is one of my favourite pieces of ‘fit kit’– not only is it light as a feather so that you can pop it in your bag & bring it wherever, but it also allows a full body workout pretty much anywhere. Right at the end of last year, I tied one to a leaning palm tree on the W Hotel island in the Maldives and powered out a full body session in tropical conditions – it was my first beach workout of its sorts, but it won’t be my last, as the experience awesome! LENTIL, BUTTERNUT + SWEET PO SOUP!
With the change of seasonal climes comes a more vulnerable immune system; it goes hand in hand with this time of year, and you’ll invariably have noticed more children picking up Spring bugs, more colleagues suffering runny noses etc. Having yearned for the sun for what seems like an eternity, perhaps we’re all a tad too eager to dash outside liberated from our coats and armed instead with little strappy sandals! ACTIVE WEEKEND BREAK WITH WESTIN!
A couple of weeks ago, I went on an exceptional Active Weekend Break with Westin Hotels & Resorts, for whom I’m a Wellbeing Movement ambassador. The trip’s destinations were the Italian cities of Milan & Florence and amongst runs, workouts, walks and sightseeing, I savoured some truly epic national cuisine. I’m no stranger to Italy and its awesome interpretation of the mediterranean diet (see my previous visits HERE), but this trip really brought home the love of exceptional food that Italians have. Yes, for me, it’s about eating healthy much of the time, but I understand that brings an associated stress that can taint the joy that comes from ‘the delicious’! This post is a little insight into what I think a great ‘Active Weekend’ break can look like, as well as some thoughts about enjoying your food, as the Italians seem to do best! (more…)
