It’s 2016 & we all lead time-pressed lives! To cater for the time-poor yet health-rich reader of FitnessOnToast, here’s a relatively quick and easy, nutritious and full-flavored little dish. These fish cakes feel like real, indulgent ‘comfort’ food, but are more like a Jedi mind trick. I served mine with a kale and quinoa salad, but they can also be served in a bun if you fancy a fish burger! Back in January 2015, I was thrilled to join my friends at adidas for the global launch of the UltraBOOST, which has since become the hottest casual running shoe in the world! Now, 18 months on, they’ve developed generation 2.0, the UltraBOOST Uncaged; a new and improved version which is a reaction to the way it was being custom modified by enthusiasts! As a self-confessed shoe fiend; I feel privileged to have been one of the first to road-test these as part of my ambassadorship with the company.

Growing up I was relentless in pleading with my parents for a pair of trainers! So, when I finally got hold of my long sought after Stan Smiths, I would cherish them and wear them every single day, until they were falling apart, but I didn’t care.  I’m now working with the brand I have loved and admired from such a young age, and as corny as it may sound it really is a dream come true. I’ve always been heavily into sports and living a healthy life, and to work with a company with such a strong, complementary ethos is quite unbelievable! To me, adidas represents a passion for sport – functionality, style, quality; it speaks of so much heritage whilst constantly innovating and delivering new technology to further the athletes out there! Massive thank you to the adidas team for allowing me to channel my innermost excited 8-year-old sporty self! To kick off, this post is a collection of thoughts on the new shoe, as well as some pictures we shot on the marvellous Croisette in Cannes, along which I ran every morning to put my pair (in Ray Red camo) through their paces!

WHY DO I WRITE THIS BLOG?

Last week, I read a super thought-provoking short article in the British Airways Business Life magazine about Simon Sinek’s ‘Why, How, What’ thesis, which rose to prominence in his celebrated TEDx talk. In short, it’s 3 simple questions which the best companies and politicians in history could/can compellingly answer without ever being asked. The answers unveil their raison d’aître with total honesty and validity, and I feel it’s important to try and do the same. Whilst Fitness On Toast remains my passion project, and I’m certainly no politician, I wanted to explain not just the What and How, but share my ‘Why‘… The driving force behind me putting myself outside my comfort zone almost every day. Whilst summer hasn’t quite made it to the UK yet amidst the bizarre confusion of seasons and temperatures currently making up our climate, I’m still hopeful! In fact to show my intent, I decided to make my own home-made Frozen Yoghurt Ice Creams which on a hot sunny day will go down an absolute treat. ‘No hot days in sight’? ‘This is England Faya’? Don’t worry, as it turns out they’re equally yummy on cold rainy British summer’s days when maybe you’re just in need of something delicious nonetheless! (Better to make believe its summer than the alternative!) This recipe is so quick and easy, and best of all it doesn’t rely on any refined sugar to taste so great; rather, it’s berries and fruit that provide all the delicious sweetness here, as well as a multi vitamin hit! If, like me, you have a bit [i.e. a lot] of a soft spot for chocolate, this one’s for you! But it’s a little different to normal; this chocolate brownie employs the delicious and textural wizardry of sweet potato, the low-GI, complex carbohydrate foodstuff which seems to pop up all over Instagram as chips and/or crisps. If you’re thinking ‘Hmm, Faya that sounds kinda bizarre and most probably not very tasty‘, I promise that you’d never guess it used sweet po as its main ingredient! In a shocking twist of fate, the potato lends itself prodigiously to this recipe; it’s naturally flavoured with a gentle sweetness and once churned up with the other natural and wholesome ingredients, the slightly softened texture is literally perfect for the application! I’ve created a lot of recipes in my time as a blogger, but few have made me smile as much as this! Since I’m a pescatarian, I made these Chickpea burgers as a healthy and utterly delicious veggie option for certain summer nights when the carnivores want to go all caveman and rustle up a bbq.
